Thank you for tuning into another powerful episode of Sports Talk with Fat Larry! As always, we’re putting the spotlight on Texas Southern University, HBCU excellence, and alumni legacy — and this episode is extra special.
In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Lacy Reynolds and Clayton Crook — two leaders whose stories are deeply connected through Texas Southern University and the HBCU experience.
Dr. Lacy Reynolds brings more than three decades of experience in higher education and collegiate athletics. From his roots in Shelby, Mississippi, to coaching in the SWAC as head coach of the Grambling State Tigers and Texas Southern Lady Tigers, to earning his Doctorate in Education from Texas Southern University, Dr. Reynolds’ impact spans both the court and the classroom. Today, he continues shaping future leaders as a professor in TSU’s College of Education.
Joining him is Clayton Crook — a proud TSU alumnus, former Texas Southern University basketball player, and one of Coach Reynolds’ top recruits during his tenure at TSU. Clayton’s journey from student-athlete to respected educator and school leader is a true HBCU success story. He went on to serve as principal at Cullen Middle School, Northside High School, and A. A. Milne Elementary, leading schools to Texas Recognized and Exemplary ratings while mentoring future principals, administrators, and educators across Houston ISD. He now serves as an Adjunct Professor at Texas Southern University, continuing the cycle of mentorship and leadership.

In this episode, I sit down with Texas Southern University’s Interim Athletics Director, Dr. Paula L. Jackson, a nationally respected athletics executive with more than 20 years of experience leading and elevating collegiate sports programs across the country.
From Southern University to Clark Atlanta, from Hampton to Norfolk State, and now right here at Texas Southern University, Dr. Jackson has built a legacy rooted in student-athlete success, innovation, and service. She has created national models like Classroom on the Road, launched multiple new sports programs, forged million-dollar partnerships, and helped shape the future of NIL education for HBCU athletes.
In our conversation, Dr. Jackson opens up about:
• Her Baton Rouge roots and her journey as a two-time HBCU graduate
• How she broke into athletics leadership despite limited opportunities for women at the time
• Her years working in both collegiate and professional sports — including five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons
• The new energy she’s bringing to TSU Athletics
• Her vision for student-athlete development, community engagement, alumni support, and NIL innovation
• Why she believes Texas Southern is positioned to become a national model for mid-major athletics
• And how the entire TSU community can “Be Legendary” together
This episode is all about HER — her story, her leadership, and her dedication to elevating HBCUs. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this conversation with one of the most respected minds in college athletics.
